RE: Colorado hiking during hunting season

Other than the obvious wear bright colors, any tips from hunting season hikers would be welcome.Don't go into the woods. I don't care how many precautions you take or how safe hunters are, accidents happen and you don't want to be around when one does. This is the best advice. You can also ruin the hunt as well. Turn the tables around as if you were the one hunting. How would you feel if you spent the morning tracking the game (deer, elk, etc.) and all of a sudden, somebody with bells on their clothing walks by and spooks the game. You would be mad at that person for waisting your morning. Stay out of the woods, or hike where they don't allow hunting. Rocky Mountain National Park is real nice in the fall.

RE: What is the Correct GVWR for the K-Z Sportster 2910????

Why not look under the trailer and see if it has 6 or 7,000 lbs axles? You could also call KZ and give them the serial number and they will give you the information. What should I look at that will tell me if it is a 6000 or 7000lb axle?

What is the Correct GVWR for the K-Z Sportster 2910????

Ok. I have become officially confused on the weights of the K-Z Sportsman Sportster 2910. Looking at three different areas, I find three different weights. The one that befuddles me the most, is the weight listed on the inside of the cabinate door of a trailer at a local dealers lot. ------------------ 09 -------- 08 ----- Dealer ------------------ Web--- Brochure - Trailer UVW----------- 9670,--- 9285,--- 9635 DHW----------- 1705,--- 1555 DAW----------- 7965,--- 6000,--- 6000 NCC------------ 4030,--- 4115,--- 1392 GVWR-------- 13700,- 13400,-- 12000 Ext Height--- 11'-6",-- 12'-4" Ext Length--- 31'-11",- 33'-9" The trailer was manufactured on February 2008 which was before the publication of the 2008 brochure specs. It has 16" rims on eight lug axles, so I find it hard to believe that 12,000 lbs GVWR is correct. My guess is that the 09 web specs are correct, but then I question why it took so long for K-Z to figure out the specs on the trailer when they are the ones that manufactured it :h. Did they re-design the trailer between 08 and 09? We are thinking on buying the trailer at the dealers lot, but then I don't want to buy a problem if it can only carry our quads. Thanks.

RE: 2500HD - 3500 Hub Bearing - FYI

What are the symptoms to look for to know if the bearing is failing? Squeeking and grinding? I have 50k on my 2500HD so curious.

RE: Post photos of your toyhauler

I feel humbled with my modest low end baby toy hauler after looking at the monsters that I have seen on this thread. but this works for me. the trailer only cost me $7000 Have a great day chris olson http://lh3.ggpht.com/GlacierGal/SH7Y9Zh_cHI/AAAAAAAAHVE/ByKECCzbWWc/IMG_4472.JPG?imgmax=800 I didn't spend a whole lot om my trailer either. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b7ce33b3127ccec20d8af342c200000010O00JYsmLVm4Yg9vPhw/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D480/ry%3D320/ height=480 width=640

RE: changing out rear end

If it costs about $500 to change the gears out, you will have to drive about 20,000 miles to break even; based on 1 mpg improvement. Drive another 20,000 and you will have saved $500. Question is, how much do you drive the truck and is the payback time wort it? I only drive my truck 3,000 miles a year, so I'll keep my 4:10 gear ratio.

RE: Apologies! PA I81, 6/27, rain, flat tire

I had to change a flat in my 1500 mile trek East in 18 degree weather. I drove up onto my leveling board till the flat hung over the end of the board, then lifted the axle with the truck jack. Didn't take more than 20 minutes.

RE: Three Reasons Why You Should Keep Your Truck

When we moved to Ohio last year, I traded a company car for a car allowance. With that, I bought a 25mpg commuter car so I didn't have to drive my truck. Even with today's gas prices, I would have been money ahead if I didn't buy that car and put the miles on my truck. Buying that car was good for my health though. The roads arond Cleveland have to be the worst in the nation.

RE: Bilstein Shocks

Just put the Bilsteins on my truck yesterday. There was a noticable difference on the feel going over the bumps. I agree with the other posts, anything feels great after driving around on worn shocks. Mine had 50k miles and they were ready to be changed at 40k. Can't wait to pull the trailer next weekend to see how well my TV rides :) BTW. Did anyone catch the fact that the Bilstein shocks are German, but they are made here in the USA?

RE: HELP!! Re-setting GMC "Driver Information Center"

From my manual... To reset the eingine oile life system, do the following... 1. turn the ignition key to run with the eingine off. 2. fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds. if the oil life reset message flashes for 10 seconds, the system is resetting. 3. turn the key to lock. Mike I just changed my oil last week and the above instructions worked like a charm.

RE: New Spark Plugs for the GM 8.1l

Thanks for the info. I went with the copper plugs since I don't mind changing the plugs evrey couple years. One thing is, it's a good check to make sure the engine is firing properly. Thanks again.

New Spark Plugs for the GM 8.1l

Well, it's that time again. Several years back, I recall a thread that said the old copper plugs were good enough and the platinum and split tail plugs were nothing but hype. Is there any real advantage to going to a high performance plug in the 496? (i.e. will it help the gas mileage?) I have the copper plugs in now and they have seemed to work fine with no noticeable mpg loss in comparison to other posts. What spark plugs do you have in your 8.1 how do they benefit the engine performance? Thanks.

RE: Future of Toy Haulers

... I might get a 1-2 mpg better but in the grand scheme of things is it that significant? ... It's just an expensive hobby.... I got 7.5mpg this weekend pulling my hobby. I would love to get 1-2 mpg better milage. That won't happen because we are looking at getting a bigger trailer :h

RE: Parking the Truck--Anyone else?

Hey Guys-n-gals: Just thought I'd see if anyone else is parking the truck. I love driving my F250, but when it's just me and I'm driving here and there, I really don't see the wisdom in it. So, just for fun and a little fuel economy, I'm gonna buy a motorcycle. For the driving I do, it should fit my bill pretty well. How are you guys coping? Any other bikers on this site? Take care and have a great weekend. BTW, we're having 4 consecutive days of 90 degree temps here in C-town. What's up with that? Pete Ohio roads and drivers scare me. Be safe on that thing. I parked my truck over two years ago, but that was because I got a company car. Now it gets less than 3000 miles a year.

RE: Change tires from 245's to 265's ?????

I changed the LT245/75R16E out for LT265/75R16E tires on my truck right after I bought it. The dealer cannot change the speedo but you should have the anti-lock brakes reprogramed to the correct size. It is a simple reprograming of the ABS system and will not affect the speedo. I work for the dealer and I called the GM Tech Line to get the new calibration settings for the 265's and GM will not give them, they said the truck came with 245's and is not available with 265's. I even gave them the old "The SRW 3500 has 265's on it" but it won't work.... Gary A couple years after I had my truck I change to the larger tires and then wen to the dealer to have them reprogram the drivetrain for the larger tires. They did it with no problem at all.

RE: KZ Sportsmen Sportster 2910

We are really happy with this rig, alot of nice suprises, for one...the TV is a HD LCD with a powered HD over air antenna (awesome picture), was not expecting that. Was up on the roof installing MaxAir covers and noticed they have a coax plug on the roof (in case you want to plug in the dish on the roof) Ours was prepped for a generator, so it has the fuel tank and pump. It has a thermostat controlled Fantastic fan in the garage, other nice perk on hot days. Our dealer was not real helpful when it came to the specifics (yeah, I know PDI)...Like the Gray/Black tank outlet is in front of the tires on the street side(1 outlet 2 valves), the galley outlet is behind the tires on the street side, nothing is marked. Also there is only one fresh water inlet you use the same inlet to fill the water tank and use the same inlet if you are hooked up to city water, there is a valve inside the rig that needs to be flipped, again, nothing is marked and the owners manual is not real helpful. But over all it is a great rig, we haul 1 HD Bagger, sometimes 2, I have never weighed the unit, and maybe I don't want to, My 06 Chevy HD2500 6.0 pulls it down the road, get about 7 mpg...maybe someday a diesel will be pulling it. You can PM me if you have other questions. Nick. At first, I saw two water inlets, then realized one was a black tank flush. I didn't realize the galley had a separate gray water tank. That's a nice bonus. Does the battery box have enough room for two batteries? I couldn't tell cause it was locked. I get about 8-8.5 mpg pulling my 25' Sportsman which is about 4,000 lbs lighter. I would expect to lose some mpg. The 8.1 made better sense when I bought it 6 years ago. Thanks for the info

RE: Devils Tower

I figured out why the park dont get full. They have zero hookups. THat will sure keep people out! They have quiet hours so i cant run my generator at night. Point is, Im planning on it being 90 degrees at night and setting a reservation some place close. However if i get there and its 58, ill stay in the park and punt the reservation. Any spots close that are good? The KOA? Remember, the elevation is over 5000feet. You won't be needing a generator to run the air conditioning at night. After 9:00pm (in August) it will cool down nicely.

RE: KZ Sportsmen Sportster 2910

Does anyone have the actual specs for the KZ 2910. All I can find online is the specs for the 29P. Map Guy Just recieved a brochure from KZ today on the 2910... UVW (unloaded vehicle weight) 9285 Dry hitch wt. 1555 Axles 2 @ 6000 NCC (Net carrier cap.) 4115 GVWR 13400 Exterior Height (w/AC) 12'4" Ext. length 33'9" Ext. width 102" Fresh water 110 Waste water 38 Gray water 38 LP 2 30# tanks Furnace BTU (1000) 25 Tires 16" Im pulling the trigger on one of these, next week...it will be our first.:) So, how do you like your new trailer? Wed looked at it again last weekend, and it's just a matter of time before we get one ourselves. The GVWR listed above is 13400lbs. The one we looked at this weekend is only 12,000 lbs. I looked at another on line with fiberglass sides. It had a 12,000 gvwr and only had about 1,000 lbs ncc. How is your trailer set up?

RE: Do you leave your campsite/trailer while boondocking in CO?

The ONLY boondocking in Colorado is in Walmart parking lots, and I'd lock up everything there, including the family. ;) See. That's why I left Colorado. I found soooooo many more places here in Ohio to boondock :B It makes me wonder how I could have spent 18 years of my life living there. :S Oh Wait! I think my smilies are backwards.
